7 of the Most Instagrammable Spots in Tulum, Mexico

Tulum is notorious for its boho-chic vibes, innovative Mayan cuisine and fun party vibes. I’ve visited twice and consider it one of my favorite places in the world. There’s something for everyone and for those who love the art of capturing a beautiful picture, I’ve created a fun guide featuring seven of my photo opp recommendations.

Atik Tulum - Into the Underworld

Atik is a natural park located in Tulum surrounded by the Mayan jungle. The park offers a captivating cenote perfect for a refreshing swim, as well as artistic installations, sculptures, and photo zones, blending nature with creativity. There are over 3,000 artist-made replica skulls representing Tzompantli. Back in the day, these wooden or stone structures were used by the Mexicans’ to display their defeat of enemies. They were placed at city entrances to showcase strength and ferocity to enemies.

Ven a la Luz (Come into the Light)

Located in the sculpture garden at Ahau Tulum, just off Tulum’s main road is “Ven a Luz” which translates to “Come into the Light.” The sculpture was designed to raise awareness of the fragile Riviera Maya ecosystem. It was sculpture was created by Daniel Popper, an artist known globally for his larger-than-life sculptures and public art installations. This spot is great for those who appreciate art and are looking for fun photo opportunities. Expect a short wait for the photos.

Laguna de Kaan Tulum

Located 15 minutes from the Tulum is Laguna de Kaan Tulum which translates to “Yellow Earth” in Maya. “Follow That Dream” sign

On a palm-lined stretch of Tulum Beach Road, you’ll find a small green sign with a big message: “Follow That Dream.” This free Instagram favorite sits near the Lolita & Lolita boutique and represents Tulum’s wanderlust vibe. Arrive early or late for the best light, then grab a smoothie at nearby Matcha Mama.

Vagalume Tulum

Tucked along Tulum’s beachfront is Vagalume, hands down one of my favorite spots in Tulum. Here you will find a beach club with a front row seat of the ocean which you will be grateful for on a hot day. There are also cocktails, beachside dishes including my favorite - ceviche, and sunbeds. On each side of the dock that features the hand sculptures is two small pools that you cana leisurely swim in. At night, the beach club transforms into a popular party spot featuring local and international DJ’s.

Cenote Calavera

Located just a short 10‑minute ride from downtown Tulum lies one of the Yucatán’s most thrilling and photogenic cenotes: Cenote Calavera, known as Tulum’s “Temple of Doom".” Its three circular openings—two small “eye” holes and one larger “mouth” hole form a dramatic skull-like shape from above, inspiring both fear and fascination.
