Jewel Cave Monument

Feeding Prairie Dogs at the Ranch Store

Located just outside Badlands National Park on SD-240 near Philip, the Badlands Ranch Store is renowned for its prairie dog colony. Visitors can purchase a bag of unsalted peanuts for $1 and feed the friendly prairie dogs that inhabit the area next to the store.

The store is open from late May through mid-September, operating daily from 8AM to 6PM MST. It’s a delightful stop for families and travelers looking to engage with local wildlife in a controlled environment.
